For my final AS Level media piece, I have decided to make a music magazine. We have to make the front cover, contents page and a double page spread of the magazine. I looked at all the different genres of music that i could make my magazine for e.g. R'n'B, Indie/Rock and Pop. I decided to make a Indie/Rock music magazine as I feel that I would be able to work best with this genre than the others. Also at the moment the Indie/Rock genre would sale best and attract a wider audience as the genre is mostly liked at this present time. I am working in a pair with Joe Edwards, he would be doing a different edition to our magazine; Total. To make sure that my magazine fits with the genre I will make the layout and colouring matches the genre. The colours that I will be using are red, black and white as these are the conotations of rock. The colours are associated with blood and darkness, which the genre 'Rock' is about. I will be using photoshop to make my magazine. This is the only programme that I like using, as it will give the magazine a professional look to it. I don't like using Microsoft Publisher I think that it doesn't make the Magazine look realistic, it looks fake.
My main image and band: The main image of the band that i am using in the double page spread and for the front cover are going to be called blame: they are a "new" indie band. I am going to be using friend to create the band. I want my made up band to look like the band: The Enemy..
I have used the iconic black coats as a trade mark to the band. I have put my band into black coats as well to make them look like the band. The images of the band will be of the 3 boys looking directly at the camera as it would look as if the band are looking straight at the reader, so it would make it look as if they were talking straight to the reader to make them buy the magazine. The boys would have the moody rock star image, so you can actually tell that they are in a indie band and not a pop band.

This is my final front cover of my preliminary task for my still image piece. I created this front cover using Photoshop. Which i have been used to using as i use it for photography. The challenges I found to use Photoshop was that it was hard to layer with some of the pictures, even though its pretty basic. My image that i used as my background image it was hard to find colours that would stand out against the colouring within the image.
The particular social group that I have chosen to work with is the sixth formers at chew valley school. I have reached out to this audience as it is the start of the new term and there is a new sixth form block opening up to them. Although I have put underneath the title (Chew News)- "sixth form special" so that the reader knows that this particular episode of the magazine is all about the sixth form and not its original publication.
The institution that would be interested in selling my magazine would be an institution that sells magazines to schools around the country. Also chew valley school would distribute my magazine as well as it is about the school so they would want to sale it.
As i said before the audience that i have chosen to work with was students of Chew Valley sixth form as the magazine is titled Sixth Form Special so you can tell that it is just for the sixth formers, but other students of the school are welcome to buy the magazine as they might like to see what it is like to be at sixth form. I address my audience through images of the new sixth form block and images inside the magazine of the students.
I have learnt how to use Photoshop better, I was alright with using it to start with but now I feel very confident with using it for my actually final product. Looking back through my preliminary task I have learnt to use Photoshop and how to layout my magazine better.
